Detection Technology for Security – Berkeley Varitronics

Our May 18 meeting had a great presentation by Carmine Caffera of Berkeley Varitronics, BVSystems.com. Berkeley Varitronics, located in Metuchen, NJ, manufactures specialized detection equipment used for a variety of security applications.

Their main products work to detect radio signals from cellular phones, Bluetooth, and Wifi and also cell phones that not even turned on. This equipment is often used in prisons, by police departments, corporate security, and by TSCM electronic countermeasures teams. Carmine demonstrated a number of their devices listed below.

SentryHound

SentryHound is a cell phone detection security portal. It resembles a walk-through metal detector but it is only triggered when cell phones (or other ferromagnetic material) pass by its sensors. This type of TSCM installation is especially useful for security personnel looking to detect any cell phones (ON or OFF) as well as some weapons including knives and guns without invasive and time-consuming searches.

Wolfhound™-PRO’s high-speed scanning receiver utilizes a multi-band direction finding antenna system allowing security personnel to locate nearby cell phones in either standby mode or during active voice, text or data RF transmissions. This makes it the perfect devices for locating contraband phones or a TSCM tool for enforcing your NO WIRELESS security policy. Wolfhound-Pro’s passive receiver technology does NOT intercept or “listen-in” on any phones calls making it fully legal and the tool of choice for law enforcement trying to avoid sluggish court orders and search warrants. Wolfhound-Pro will also detect hidden GPS trackers and U.S. DECT 6.0 cordless phones

PocketHound™ is the industry’s most sensitive cell phone detector for it’s size. This award-winning*, passive receiver is no larger or heavier than a deck of cards and specifically tuned to the RF signature of common cell phones (both U.S. & international bands) including all 2G, 3G and 4G bands (PCS, CDMA / WCDMA (UMTS), GSM, EGSM).

WallHound

cellular detection Berkeley VaritronicsWallHound detects and deters individuals from using cell phones in areas they are normally restricted, unauthorized or illegal. It works by detecting all nearby cell phone activity including voice, data and texting. Once detected, WallHound alerts the mobile phone user (and anyone else within earshot) with a bright, flashing LED ‘no cell phone’ sign and loud, custom audio message set by the facility. Sensitivity and alert volumes are fully adjustable and also key lockable to ensure no tampering occurs.

WallHound’s strength lies in its ease of use and ability to function fully unattended. This frees up security personnel for more pressing duties while reminding visitors that cell phones are prohibited making WallHound ideal for visitors in correctional facilities, court rooms or anywhere people need to be reminded about cell phone policies.
