Here is a little about mentoring from ASIS headquarters:

“Mentoring: A Value-Added Benefit for Members”

Mentoring has long been viewed as an effective way to develop human potential and promote the growth of future leaders. The security industry is no exception, and the ASIS International Leadership and Management Practices Council’s (LMPC) Mentoring Committee is a strong advocate.

The committee developed and rolled out a mentoring program several years ago that was piloted and implemented in several chapters worldwide. The feedback regarding this program has been positive and many have benefited from participating. The focus of the program was to match security professional with those looking for general advice on industry practices and career development. The program also offered members a way to transfer institutional knowledge and assist current and future leaders with succession planning.

It is now time to take a fresh look at the existing mentoring program and to find ways to make it even more accessible to the ASIS member base. The Mentoring Committee has begun that process, and all aspects of the program are being reviewed and evaluated with an emphasis on ease of use and making it relevant to current membership needs.

The committee is also developing a webinar series showcasing C-Suite security industry leaders at the top of their careers. These leaders will be asked to share how they started their careers in security, what they learned and experienced on their way to their current leadership position, and what they recommend for those moving up in the industry. Work is already underway to get these webinars started, so stay tuned for more news on this exciting new LMPC Mentoring Committee offering.

These are exciting and busy times for the LMPC Mentoring Committee. We welcome your suggestions and feedback, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
